Suwa Sathkara

The "Suwa Sathaakara" project, held on the 14th of September 2024, at the Sri Shesthrarama Temple, Dippitigoda, Kelaniya, was an initiative aimed at promoting health awareness within the community. Blood samples were collected from 70 individuals aged between 30 and 70 years, residing in the Kelaniya Dippitigoda area. These samples were tested for sugar and cholesterol levels, with the medical reports being provided on the same day, free of charge. The club members also offered participants a nutritious Kola kanda drink as refreshments, known for boosting energy and supporting recovery after blood sampling.
With the current economic challenges facing the country, this project played a crucial role in providing much-needed health guidance to people who might otherwise lack access to such services. The Leo members worked tirelessly to gather the necessary resources, organize the venue, and assist the medical staff, ensuring the project’s smooth and successful execution.

Playful Minds

The third session of the "Playful Minds" project took place on September 20, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. at the LOLC Child Care Centre. This ongoing initiative aims to enhance the emotional and mental well-being of the 16 children at the center, helping them develop essential skills for their overall growth.
During this session, the children had the opportunity to watch a children's movie, followed by a dinner of burgers and soft drinks. We also celebrated one of the children's birthdays. The main focus of this month's session was to encourage the children to connect with the movie characters, allowing them to process and express emotions such as happiness, empathy, and fear in a safe environment. Through the use of movies, we can teach valuable life lessons, improve language skills, relieve stress, and spark imagination and creativity. Additionally, by providing dinner, we were able to address their immediate need for food.

Safer Streets

On September 28th, 2024, the Leo Club of Wickramasinghepura, in collaboration with the Leo Club of CINEC Campus and the Leo Club of Koswatta United, successfully carried out a road safety initiative aimed at reducing traffic accidents in a high-risk area. After extensive research and careful evaluation of accident-prone zones, we identified a critical need to replace two damaged road mirrors that were essential for drivers to safely navigate a blind curve. The project culminated in the installation of two new convex mirrors, strategically placed to enhance visibility and prevent potential collisions.
